It's never too late to apply for a scholarship, even for an upcoming senior year of college.

YCSC Scholarship Award Program

Each Spring York County Senior College awards two $500 scholarships to students who attend classes at University College/Saco, and two $500 scholarships to students at Sanford Community Adult Education (SCAE) /Springvale.  The following award winners were announced in May 2018. Each were awarded a $500 scholarship from York County Senior College.

Matthew Leach

Matthew is an Applied Science major with a minor in Psychology. He has volunteered for the York County Juvenile Fire Safety & Intervention Collaborative and the Alfred Fire & Rescue Fire Prevention program. Matthew is a Lt. for the Biddeford Fire Department. He is seeking an education to learn how to help first responders cope with stressors and create prevention programs to deal with the cumulative stress experienced in the first responder field. He is pictured above with Dan Philbrick, Director of the Saco Center, Jane Carlson, Chairperson of YCSC, and council member Al Shinkel.

Kymberli Leng

Kymberli is working towards her Associate’s degree in Business Administration with an emphasis on management. She has previously worked with the homeless and the substance abuse population to help them find and maintain housing. She hopes to use her degree to advance at her position at IDEXX or possibly even owning and managing her own business someday. She is pictured above with Dan Philbrick, Director of the Saco Center, Jane Carlson, Chairperson of YCSC, and council member Al Shinkel.

 

University College/Saco scholarship applicant criteria:

  • Have completed at least two semesters in the University of Maine System
  • Have a passing grade in all courses taken in the last two semesters
  • Submit a copy of their transcript for the last two semesters
  • Be registered for at least 6 credits during the semester(s) the scholarship is received
  • Complete the attached form and submit the form along with required essay and transcript copy

Application form or further information may be obtained at the University College/Saco office.

The Scholarship Committee reviews all applications and will award the scholarship based on the information gathered through the application and other required material.

The scholarship award will be presented at the Student Recognition ceremony in later April at University College/Saco and at the York County Senior College Annual Luncheon held in June.

Sanford Community Adult Education (SCAE) scholarship applicant criteria: Scholarships are used to recognize outstanding adult learners - who have overcome obstacles in furthering their education; who serve as role models for other students; who possess defined short and long term educational goals

Scholarships are paid directly to the post-secondary institution for tuition, books, fees and education related expenses.

Scholarship application form is available at SCAE office. It must be completed and returned to the SCAE office by the required early June date.
